Cara Smith

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Cara Smith

Cara brings a rich background of over eight years as a certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA), with six of those years dedicated to nurturing young minds as a kindergarten paraprofessional. Her depth of experience with children in classroom settings enriches her approach to nature-based therapy, complemented by her time spent in a skilled nursing facility.

Driven by a profound passion for pediatrics, Cara’s journey into occupational therapy was deeply personal. After a career break in the business sector and time spent as a devoted stay-at-home mom, she was inspired to pursue her OTA degree following her own sons’ early challenges. Both were born significantly premature and benefited greatly from Early Intervention OT services, sparking Cara’s desire to extend her support to other children in need.

Joining Explore Pediatric Therapy, Cara quickly recognized the unique and powerful benefits of integrating nature into therapeutic practices. She has witnessed first-hand the transformative effects nature-based therapy can have, delivering unmatched outcomes and enriching the lives of her clients in profound ways.

Cara holds licensure in MA and is a proud member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). She possesses a B.S. in Business Management from Bryant College (now Bryant University) and an Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from SUNY Orange.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Cara finds joy in the simplicity of outdoor walks, immersing herself in books, engaging in creative crafts, and seeking new adventures with her family.
